Here is an overview of the sites which can be visited or passed by:
Frederiksborg Castle, the beautifully situated Renaissance building which – like so many others – was built by orders of King Christian IV. Today, Frederiksborg is the home of the Museum of National History. The collection of which includes priceless paintings, silver and porcelain items, furniture, and tapestries. The castle chapel houses Denmark’s oldest organ from 1610.
Kronborg Castle was chosen by William Shakespeare as the setting for his play, Hamlet. It is a suitably dramatic Renaissance castle. Built in 1420 and expanded in the 1500s, situated on the narrow ground between Denmark and Sweden. Kronborg Castle is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site.
Fredensborg Palace, built in 1722, is the spring and autumn residence of the Danish Queen. A brief photographic stop can be made there (not going in).
If the group is interested in Modern art, we can consider visiting the
Louisiana – Museum of Modern Art
Located with a fantastic view of the Sound, this museum is the perfect surrounding for modern art. The collection covers the period from 1945 to the present and includes almost every genre. With an emphasis on painting and sculpture.
On this North Zealand tour, we drive from or to Copenhagen on the scenic route along the coast of Oresund. Where you will see impressive mansions, humble fishermen’s villages, and old birch forests.
Side notes:
*In case the group has different interests we could also plan around visiting two other locations:
Karen Blixen Museum
Karen Blixen is one of Denmark’s most well-known authors. She has written Out of Africa and Seven Gothic Tales. In the city of Rungsted, you can visit her private home and explore her fascinating life story. Karen spent 17 years in Kenya and the African lifestyle had a huge influence on her life. The rooms are almost exactly as Karen Blixen decorated and arranged them, giving a vivid impression of the writer’s day-to-day surroundings.
Roskilde – UNESCO World Heritage Site Roskilde Cathedral and Roskilde’s Viking Ship Museum
We could also include stories about 400 Years of Judaism in Denmark.
What To Keep In Mind
Please keep in mind that in the North Zealand tour, the lunch and museum tickets are not included in the price. Therefore, you can decide if you like to go to museums or wander around and enjoy your customized tour.
